Insurance Day is a chance to talk to legislators about how the insurance industry protects the financial security, property and health of Minnesotans and the important impact our industry has on the Minnesota economy. Insurance day is free of charge and includes training semimars, meetings with legislators, lunch, transportation to the Capitol, and a reception at the end of the day with key legislators and door prizes. Continuing education credits may be available, pending approval.

Parking & Transportation Information
We have arranged parking at the Saint Paul RiverCentre. Parking fees are not covered by event organizers. Transportation has been arranged to take all event attendees to the Capitol and back.
Lunch & Reception Information
We are happy to offer complimentary lunch to event attendees. The evening reception will be held from 4:00-6:00pm. The location will be announced soon, but will be within walking distance of Saint Paul RiverCentre.

Guide: Meeting with Legislators
Meeting with elected officials is rewarding and impactful. The overall goal of the meeting is to educate our legislators, enlist them in our cause, engage them to champion our issues and efforts, and to gain their goodwill toward the insurance and financial services industry.
Please find below some suggestions to ensure that you are successful.
- Arrive on time (to the best of your ability) at the designated meeting place – typically a legislator’s office – and check in with his or her legislative assistant.
- Members of the legislature are busy – particularly given this condensed legislative session. However, they do like to meeting with constituents. Be prepared with your talking points and keep the conversation focused given that most meetings will not last longer than 15 minutes.
- Start by explaining that you’re a constituent or if you also happen to work in the district. Remind the legislator about your business, how long you have been in business, and the contributions you make the community.
- Tell the legislator why you are at the Capitol, remember to reference your involvement in the insurance and financial services industry, and our legislative priorities. Explain how the passage of legislation regarding those issues will affect your business.
- Ask the elected official to support our issues this session. If they say they don’t support one of our issues, ask them to elaborate and see what may be done to gain their support.
- Thank the member for their time and invite them to your business – regardless of whether or not they support our issues and priorities. Leave behind one of the magnets for them to keep.
- Follow up with an email. After the meeting, it is important to thank the elected officials you met with to discuss insurance and financial services issues. This is a good opportunity to reiterate your message.
- If “Note” is listed as your meeting time with your legislator, it means that the legislator is either unavailable or the legislator’s staff has yet to respond to the meeting request. You are encouraged to leave a note for the legislator with the handouts you have. Make sure to leave your name, address, and contact information as well.
